Andy Hayher KC practices in all areas of family law, with a particular focus on high net worth matters, appellate and trial litigation. Over the course of his career, he has had the opportunity to argue cases before the Supreme Court of Canada, Alberta Court of Appeal, and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, experience that has shaped his approach to advocacy and his understanding of complex family law issues. Whether in a courtroom or a boardroom, Andy is a zealous advocate for his clients, while remaining focused on practical solutions to help the family move forward.

Andy was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2022 (now King’s Counsel) and has been recognized by Best Lawyers, Lexpert Magazine, and Doyle’s Guide as a leading family law practitioner. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, one of a small number of Canadian lawyers to hold that distinction. In 2022, he was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for his contributions to the Province of Alberta, and in 2024, the Canadian Bar Association presented him with its Distinguished Service Award for his efforts in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the legal profession.
Andy has a genuine interest in legal education and has contributed to programs both at home and internationally, including speaking engagements in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Kenya, and the United States, where the focus has been predominately on high-net-worth international family law issues. He has served as faculty at the National Judicial Institute, which provides education to judges across Canada, and has participated in programs through the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts, the Federation of Canadian Law Societies, the Legal Education Society of Alberta, The Advocates’ Society, and the Canadian Bar Association. Closer to home, he volunteers as an instructor in the Trial Advocacy program at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law.
Outside of his practice, Andy looks for ways to contribute to the profession and his community. He sits on the Regional Advisory Committee for the Advocates’ Society, has served on the Law Society of Alberta’s Conduct Committee, and is a board member of the South Asian Bar Association of Calgary. He also serves as one of two Canadian representatives on the International Academy of Family Lawyers Board of Governors. A longtime supporter of amateur sport, he is the former Commissioner of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and currently is an Assistant Coach with the Mount Royal Men’s Volleyball program.
Andy is fluent in Punjabi and has a working knowledge of Hindi and welcomes the opportunity to serve clients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
