Andy Hayher KC

Andy is experienced in all aspects of family law and has appeared before all levels of court. He is recognized for his unique expertise arguing appellate matters primarily before the Alberta Court of Appeal and occasionally before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Andy was appointed King’s Counsel in 2022 and is one of a handful of Canadian lawyers who have been admitted to the International Academy of Family Lawyers – a recognition of his international family law work, including international child abductions. Andy is fluent in Punjabi and has a working knowledge of Hindi.

A founding partner of Hayher Lee LLP, Andy is guided by his love of the law and a strong compass for justice. When representing his clients Andy brings total focus and commitment. He will never sugar-coat matters and he will make sure his client’s position is heard in courtroom and boardroom alike.

Andy’s practice encompasses all areas of family law and he is recognized for his unique expertise in arguing appellate matters before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the Alberta Court of Appeal.

Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2022 (now King’s Counsel), Andy is recognized as a leading practitioner in the area of family law both by Best Lawyers and Lexpert Magazine. He is one of a handful of lawyers in Canada who have been admitted as a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. In 2022, Andy was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal recognizing his significant contributions to the Province of Alberta. In 2024, the Canadian Bar Association awarded Andy with the Distinguished Service Award for service to the legal profession in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Passionate about providing mentorship within the legal community (and his own firm). Andy acts as an educator through speaking and teaching engagements both locally and internationally.

He has been faculty at the National Judicial Institute, which provides legal education to judges across Canada. Andy has also delivered legal education to lawyers, judges and psychologists through the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts and the Federation of Canadian Law Societies. Closer to home, he has acted as faculty and chaired seminars through the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the Advocates’ Society and the Alberta branch of the Canadian Bar Association.

An ardent believer in giving back to the legal profession, Andy sits on the Regional Advisory Committee for the Advocates’ Society and was appointed by the Law Society of Alberta to sit on the Conduct Committee. Currently, he serves on the board of the South Asian Bar Association of Calgary and is one of two Canadian representatives on the International Academy of Family Lawyers Board of Governors. He also volunteers as an instructor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law’s Trial Advocacy program.

Andy is fluent in Punjabi and has a working knowledge of Hindi.
